Protecting cut roses and chrysanthemums

Protecting cut roses and chrysanthemums

Roses can be affected by fungal, bacterial and viral diseases.

Root rot can spread significantly if water and temperature conditions are not met, causing the death of both young and adult plants. Caused by pathogens such as Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium debaryanum, Verticillium albo-atrum, Rhizoctonia solani.

Infectious blight or stem cancer of roses (Coniothyrium wernsdorffiae), common rose cancer (Neonectria galligena), cytosporosis (Cytospora rosarum), branch drying (Botryosphaeria dothidea), cylindrocladium (Cylindrocladium scoparium).

Among bacterial diseases, the following are more common: Bacterial root canker (Agrobacterium tumefaciens), bacterial stem canker (Pseudomonas syringae), bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas (Ralstonia) solanacearum).

Viral diseases: rose streak virus (RSV), rose wilt virus (RWV), tomato swirl virus (TSWV), tobacco necrosis virus (TNV), tomato ringspot virus (ToTSV). The main measures for the prevention and control of viral diseases are post-harvest cleaning of greenhouses from plant residues, disinfection of the greenhouse, quarantine, vaccination and treatment with antiviral drugs, starting from seedlings.
