Protecting tomatoes in film greenhouses

Protecting tomatoes in film greenhouses

In modern greenhouses, tomatoes are susceptible to fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases.

Root rotcan spread significantly if water and temperature conditions are not met, causing the death of both young and mature plants. Caused by pathogens such as Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium debaryanum, Verticillium albo-atrum, Rhizoctonia solani.

Among bacterial diseases, the most common are necrosis of the core of the tomato (Pseudomonas corrugate), bacterial cancer (Clavibacter michiganensis) and bacterial wilt of tomato (Pseudomonas (Ralstonia) solanacearum), black bacterial spot (Xanthomonas vesicatoria), wet or watery rot of fruits (Pectobacterium carotovorum).

Viral diseases: tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), tomato wilt virus (TSWV), tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), pepino mosaic virus (PMV). The main measures for the prevention and control of viral diseases are post-harvest cleaning of greenhouses from plant debris, disinfection of the greenhouse, quarantine, vaccination, and treatment with antiviral drugs, starting from seedlings.
