Tomatoes are susceptible to fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases.
Root rot can spread significantly if water and temperature conditions are not met, causing the death of both young and mature plants. Caused by pathogens such as Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium debaryanum, Verticillium albo-atrum, and Rhizoctonia solani.
Among bacterial diseases, the most common are stem core necrosis (Pseudomonas corrugate), bacterial canker (Clavibacter michiganensis), and Bacterial wilt of tomato (Pseudomonas (Ralstonia) solanacearum), Bacterial black spot (Xanthomonas vesicatoria), soft or watery rot of fruit (Pectobacterium carotovorum).
Viral diseases: tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), tomato wilt virus (TSWV), tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), Pepino mosaic virus (PMV).
