Protecting strawberries in greenhouses

Protecting strawberries in greenhouses

Garden strawberries can be affected by fungal, bacterial and viral diseases.

Root rot and withering can become widespread if water and temperature conditions are not observed, causing the death of both young and adult plants. Caused by pathogens such as Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium debaryanum, Verticillium albo-atrum, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora coctorum, Phytophthora fragaria.  Also widespread are: anthracnose, white spot, brown spot, powdery dew, gray rot, brown spot, late blight.

Among the bacterial diseases, the most common are: bacterial root cancer (Agrobacterium tumefaciens), fire blight (Erwinia amylovora).

Viral diseases: Leaf crinkle virus (SCV), strawberry mosaic virus (SMV), and Arabidopsis mosaic virus (AMV). The main measures for preventing and controlling viral diseases include post-harvest cleaning of greenhouses from plant debris, disinfection of the greenhouse, quarantine, vaccination, and treatment with antiviral drugs, starting with seedlings.
